The racist patient.

چکیده
TO THE EDITOR: Twenty-five years ago, I faced a situation similar to Jain’s (1). My experience involved a horrid anti-Semite; I was raised with Holocaust survivors. I finally asked my attending to be reassigned. He said that I was a physician and must fulfill my responsibilities to my patient regardless of who and what he was. My personal feelings were immaterial. My attending was right. Jain’s patient wanted his diabetes treated properly in a hospital that would not provide his medications. His request was legitimate, and Jain’s offer to use Mr. R.’s own insulin was a pathetic reply to Mr. R.’s call for Jain to solve the problem. Jain missed an opportunity to heal and win over a fellow man.

This training set consists of Dutch posts retrieved from two public Belgian social media pages which are likely to attract racist reactions. The posts were labeled as racist or non-racist by multiple annotators, who reac...
متن کاملThe Theory of Cultural Racism
Very few academics these days consider themselves to be racists, and calling someone a racist is deeply offensive. Yet racism in the universities is just as pervasive, just as dangerous, as it was a generation ago. Nowadays we seem to have a lot of racism but very few racists. How do you explain this paradox? The place to begin is to notice the essential difference between racist theory and rac...
متن کاملRacist Value Judgments as Objectively False Beliefs: A Philosophical and Social-Psychological Analysis
We argue that racist value judgments express beliefs that are objectively false. In our view, racist value judgments have cognitive or descriptive content that is empirically inaccurate and this inaccuracy is, in principle, available to objective, rational assessment. Our position responds to a popular view that, while some value judgments, such as racist judgments, might be abhorrent, values g...

In response to the greater public awareness of anti-Indigenous racism within Canada’s health care system, the nation’s health education programs are under increasing pressure to incorporate anti-racist approaches in their training of health professionals.
